The House of Egyptian Architecture is one of the Cultural Development Fund Creative Centres. It is a hub for architects and designers, students of architecture, and everyone interested.
The house offers architects, architectural historians, practitioners and students a hub for education, practice and cultural happenings.
The Museum:
The museum covers the history of architecture in Egypt in a chronological order. Through a variety of illustrative sheets, photography,sketches, and scaled models; the history of architecture in Egypt is covered from the prehistoric times till to-date. From the onset of the Egyptian civilisation, the origin of popular architecture in rural and desert areas, in the old urbanisation in the cities, nubian architecture, ancient Egyptian architecture, Greco-Roman architecture, Coptic architecture, Islamic architecture, Mohamed Aly and Khedivial Architecture, modern and contemporary architecture are all exhibited and analysed.
Two special museums are dedicated to the great pioneers: Hassan Fathy and Ramses Wissa Wassef. illustrative sheets, photography, newspaper clips, and scaled models are included in addition to their biographies and personal belongings.
In each space of the museum, large LCD’s play short movies, presentations and interviews about Egyptian architecture and many more.
2. Training, Workshops and Meetings:
In its multi-purpose hall and rear garden are the spaces in the house dedicated to hosting such practices. The multi-purpose hall is equipped with screens and projector, desks and computers, and can be set to different purposes and occasions.
In the rear garden of the house, a special setting is prepared for practical building and architectural crafts courses. The garden also is furnished for hosting children architecture, arts and crafts workshops and story-telling events.
It is worth mentioning that all courses, trainings and workshops are provided by renowned architects and professionals. Certificated of attendance will be given to participants through the House, together with the Cultural Development Fund in collaboration with the partner institute.
3. Research:
Resourceful library offers variety of collections of books, publications and a rare-books collection are available for researchers and students. In addition to the digital library with its collection of projects, publications, photograph galleries, biographies, news and announcements, and many more.
4. Lectures and Symposia:
In the underground cross-vaulted hall, a capacity of 60 attendants are welcomed to enjoy the scheduled and occasional lectures. The hall can also host large group meeting, colloquia and large-groups workshops.
5. Cultural Events:
In its inspiring courtyard, beautiful saloon and open lounge, musical and screening installations are provided for cultural events and colloquia.
