WOMAN IN GOLD
Memories are priceless. Nobody knows that better than Maria Altmann, an elderly lady who lives a tranquil life in Los Angeles. Only a few people know of her history, the dramatic circumstances under which she had to flee Vienna during the Third Reich. Decades later she learns that she is the heir apparent of several paintings of Gustav Klimt – one of the most famous Austrian painters - which were once in possession of her family and were robbed by the Nazis. The most prominent art work is the portrait of her beloved aunt Adele Bloch-Bauer, world-renowned as “Woman in Gold”.
However, the Austrian State - the owner of the paintings - is little cooperative in accepting Maria’s rights that readily. Also, Maria herself is hesitant and doesn’t believe anymore that the paintings will ever be returned to their rightful owners – her family.
Yet she courageously decides to face the ghosts of her past, try the impossible and reclaim her heritage. Together with the unexperienced but dedicated lawyer Randy Schoenberg she begins her struggle for justice. An odyssey starts that leads them to the United States Supreme Court. A journey that will change their lives forever…
