The Graduate Annual Research Discussions on Egypt and Nubia (GARDEN) is the name for a new initiative that saw its birth on 15th December 2012. It provides a forum for MA and starting PhD students of all nationalities to present their research on Egypt and Nubia through all time periods and in all kinds of scientific fields related to archaeology, and to obtain critical feedback in a supportive environment. The focus of the workshop is on research methodology (including the organisation of research, working in Egypt and Sudan and related topics) to better prepare students to carry out thesis research and writing, as well as accustoming them to presenting at academic conferences. The GARDEN is jointly organised by the German Archaeological Institute (DAIK), the Netherlands-Flemish Institute in Cairo (NVIC) and the American University in Cairo (AUC).
