When it comes to heritage in Egypt, there are lots of issues to be discussed since Egypt possesses the remains of one of the oldest civilizations in history. In governmental Egyptian schools, we used to learn about history and heritage in mainly by memorizing dates, names and events from our long history. History and heritage are much richer than this simple memorizing system. As students we had rarely the chance to think of the value of our history and heritage and how we do or we do not relate to it today. This course aims to highlight the major links between heritage and our everyday life in Egypt through various topics starting from the meaning of the word “heritage” until the living heritage around us in the language and architecture for example, going through the role of heritage in the development and sustainability of local communities. 
It is not about the value of heritage and antiquities only; it is as well about the links between heritage and society and how these extremely unique remnants of the past can actually contribute in shaping our present and future.
