This place was founded by my father 85 years ago as a dry cleaners and I have lived a lifetime here with many memories of this passageway, in the 1940’s this place was a lot different, it was gated on both sides, as this passageway is considered a private space that belongs to the building we’re in, the mall was previously a hotel called Masonam,
The passageway was reused for commercial use, most of the closed shops you see now used to belong to deceased owners whose children didn’t want to carry on the family business, such as the shoe shop next door, as his son was employed in the state. We are the de-facto owners of this space, we want to collect money and repaint the buildings, and thankfully the local congressman responded to our demand for re-tiling the floor; he put in a request to the municipality and they re-tiled it.
I live in Bashteel in Imbaba, I come here via public transport microbus, and I walk here from Isa’af. Back then most of my clients lived downtown, but most of them left downtown, so my current clients usually pass by me before they head to work and leave their laundry and pick it up when they leave Downtown at the end of the day.
