The Sanga is the spiritual mediator between the visible and the invisible, the latter referred to as "masters". The Sanga plays the Tanbura, a large-sized lyre shaped like the Simsimia. This instrument was brought to Egypt by the waves of Sudanese immigrants who came to Egypt after Mohamed Ali conquered Sudan under the leadership of Ibrahim, Mohamed Ali's son. Until the middle of the last century, there were many Tanbura players. However, as new generations lost interest in learning and playing this instrument, the Tanbura all but disappeared until Zakaria Ibrahim rediscovered the last remaining players. The practice was revived with the founding of the Rango band whose repertoire is a mix of Sudanese folk traditions related to Zar and the music of people of color in Egypt. Hassan Bergamoon and El Arby Jakamo are two of the last four Tanbura players in Egypt.
The people gather around Rango, celebrate their wedding nights with the dancing and singing of their own traditions. Rango has performed in theaters and cultural centers in many Egyptian cities, as well as in international tours and international festivals, such as the Roskilde festival in Denmark, WOMAD in England and WOMADadlida in Australia and New Zealand.
In 2010, in collaboration with the British production company, 30 IPS, El Mastaba produced Rango 's first album, the critically-acclaimed "Bride of the Zar"
