Mission Statement
Media-Arts for Development (MADEV) –an Egyptian NGO uses media productions and media training as a means for creating positive social change Media is a powerful agent for change, and MADEV is the only NGO in Egypt that combines a development focus with the power of professional media. Its founders have worked in professional media production in Egypt for over 20 years, and were pioneers of edutainment – education through entertainment – in the Middle East. MADEV is able to utilize a variety of programming types to best reach the intended audience. For children, we produce high quality 3D animated programs with communicate rights-based messages through fun stories and memorable songs. For women, we produce sitcoms that address gender issues in an engaging and entertaining way. For adults, we produce docu-dramas that emphasize the human side to the major issues facing the Middle East. We also assist other NGOs to create compelling media that is a tool for their own projects, and highlights their achievements to the wider community. MADEV’s media training department is highly regarded because of its real-life industry experience, hands-on training approach, and facilities that are second-to-none. All our trainers work as media and development professionals, and pass on that know-how to our trainees. All of our trainees have access to the same equipment we use for our own professional media productions – audio equipment, cameras, editing suites and animation labs – most of which were funded by a USAID/Egypt project undertaken by MADEV. All trainees have the opportunity to work on a real media production activity for their final project. Thus, trainees don’t just receive theoretical knowledge; they are given the tools to work as industry professionals
