Mada Masr

Mission Statement

Mada Masr will be Egypt’s leading English-language news website with an Arabic interface.

Mission

Mada Madr strives to champion a practice of independent, professional, intelligent, profound and engaging journalism.

Description
Mada Masr is primarily an English-language site that banks on the legacy of English-language journalism in producing the country’s finest news content. Born from the same team who left the country’s leading English-Language news website and print Egypt Independent, after a massive scaling down, Mada Masr strives to champion a practice of independent, professional, intelligent, profound and engaging journalism, thanks to the robust professional background of the editorial teams behind it.

In this context, it becomes the main vehicle to information about Egypt’s politics, economy and society to the outside world, which has increasingly become interested in the Middle East in general, and Egypt in particular.

In belief of the relevance of its news production to local audiences, Mada Masr will also have an Arabic interface that translates its content to make it accessible domestically and to inform the local journalism practice. Judging from the increasing online presence of people in Egypt, and from their increasing resort to sites of alternative media such as social media, Mada Masr is expected to attract Egyptian readers seeking independent and quality coverage.

Mada Masr is also expected to attract readers from across the globe who are interested in Egypt either as a subject of research or as a place of origins. Professionals, businessmen, decision makers, diplomats, academics, human rights advocates and activists are different targeted communities of readers and contributors.
