Henry Barakat – Egypt – 1963
As a tribute to the great actress Faten Hamama, who passed away in January, we’re screening Henry Barakat’s ‘El Bab el Maftouh’. Faten Hamama shines in the role of Leila in Barakat’s film about women’s rights in the aftermath of the ’52 revolution. Laila finds herself restricted by traditions, impersonated by her father and later on by her husband. She is however in love with Hussein (Salah Salim), a soldier fighting close to Suez in the 1956 war.
With: Faten Hamama, Salah Salim, Hassan Yousef
