Combining photography, video and text elements Ma Biće Bolje (loosely translated: It will get better) probes the complexity of contradictory narratives and the limits of documentary practices in the context of post-war Bosnia-Herzegovina. The work is set as an assemblage of images and texts that avoid the sensational while presenting personal accounts told by interview partners and reflections by the authors. It also invites viewers to draw connections between the fragmented material whilst creating an awareness for the stories that might be missing or left untold.

Through repeated questioning of the role of the camera in narratives of conflict Ma Biće Bolje is a work about the possibilities and limits of the documentary form and the writing of history as much as it is a detailed account of the situation in post war Bosnia-Herzegovina. The project was realised from 2001 to 2005 and exhibited widely thereafter. An extensive publication of Ma Biće Bolje was published in 2012. In their presentation Goran Galić and Gian-Reto Gredig will present the project and talk about their reflections on documentary photography and video, as well as working collaboratively over an extended period of time.

Goran Galić and Gian-Reto Gredig are currently in Cairo as part of an artist residency provided by Pro Helvetia Cairo.
