Since the beginning of the Egyptian Revolution, journalists have been facing several difficulties, when they're covering running events on the ground, specially the dangers they face from all struggling parties. While documenting an event, the journalist himself may occasionally become a target, a number of journalists were injured, with stones, shot-birds or bullets, along with being physically beaten or assaulted. The importance of this workshop comes from creating an atmosphere of experience exchange between participants, sharing the situations they have been through, with the possibility of discussing imagined situations, to come up with some safety rules to be followed to protect the journalist and to minimize the possibilities of him/her from becoming a target, or part of the conflict.

The lecture is given by photographer Khalil Hamra, photographer of the Associated Press since 2001, who was covering the events of the Palestinian Israeli conflict in Gaza strip until 2010, as well as the Egyptian Revolution and the Syrian conflict. He is a laureate of 14 international prizes, one of which is the Overseas Press Club of “Robert Capa Gold Medal” of war photographers, for his series of photographs entitled “War in Gaza”, becoming the first Associated Press photographer to win the award in more than thirty years. He was also awarded the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography.
