Film: The Time that Remains (2009)
From the acclaimed director of “Divine Intervention” Elia Suleiman, “The Time that Remains” is an intimate semi-biographical portrait of Palestinians living as a minority in their own homeland. Based partly on Suleiman’s own life, the film is a tale of torture, exile, and embattled resistance. What makes the film more than a litany of justified grief is its black humour. Suleiman deploys distinctively photographed tableaux, idiosyncratic characters and a stand-up comic's sense of timing to evoke the absurdity of the modern political situation.
