Old Saybrook, a farce about infidelity, is set in the opulent living room of a Connecticut house. The action of the play is set in motion when, on an ordinary weekend day involving a barbecue and golf on television, unexpected visitors arrive: a pushy young couple, Hal and Sandy, who used to live in that same house. In the course of their visit, they reveal the existence of a secret door, which first opens the play up into a very funny, if conventional, comic slipstream of sexual confession and accusation.
