“Planning and Building with Earth"

Based on their shared interest in fostering entrepreneurship, innovation, community building and learning in earth building as a field of green building technology the Egyptian Earth Construction Association (EECA) and the German Association for Building with Earth (Dachverband Lehm e. V. DVL) announce a training course

The aim of the training course is to contribute towards developing the skills of the course participants by providing appropriate information about building with earth. The course will consider historical and traditional building methods and approaches for the ongoing monitoring, maintenance and conservation of the earthen built heritage. It will provide information on the contemporary uses of earth in modern architecture and business strategies for Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) as well. The course is based on the current state of the art of earth building.

Requirements for participants:
The course is directed towards graduated architects, civil engineers and urban planners (Master degree M.Sc., M.Sc. Eng. in architecture, civil engineering, urban planning or related fields) coming from Egypt. The course is developed as structured didactic teaching modules including classroom lectures, practical session on site and an excursion. The course lectures will be given in English language. Maximum number of participants is sixteen.
Parallel to ongoing studies the course participants will elaborate a written thesis / paper (CD and printed version) presented orally at the end of the course. The scheme of the thesis will handed out to the course participants prior the start of the course and completed parallel to ongoing studies.

Certification:
After successful presentation of their thesis’ to the course participants will be awarded a certificate issued and sealed by the DVL and signed by representatives of the DVL and EECA.

Location:
- The first part of the course (Day 1-5) will take place at EECA Training center, Downtown, Cairo.
- The second part (Day 6-10) will take place at the training facilities of the Developed Vocational Training Centre (VTC) of the General Trade Union of Building and Wood Workers (GTUBWW), Maadi, Cairo.
