Antonia’s Line is often described as a ‘feminist fairy tale’. It tells the story of the independent Antonia who returns to her home town after World War II. Together with her daughter and granddaughters she builds a
close-knit matriarchal community that keeps on growing over the generations. The film celebrates life and love and the power of female creativity and intelligence. Talking about death, religion, sex and love Antonia’s Line is able to blend comedy, drama and tragedy into a powerful story.

Antonia’s Line won an Oscar for Best Foreign Film in 1996 and received numerous other awards. The film was made almost 20 years ago, but its life-affirming power doesn’t let anyone untouched.
