Movement is an essential part of an actor and dancer’s work. It is a fundamental aspect of life. All around us we see this in human movement, the changes in the elements of nature, and even in our linear perception and understanding of time. In a performance, whether its nature is dramatic or dance, the audience understands, identifies, and relates via the motion in physical expression or the flow of ideas expressed verbally.

In this workshop, we will look at and exercise the several fundamental aspects associated with movement. In time, there is tempo, duration, and rhythm. In space, there is potential to respond to the air of an environment, distance between people and objects, and explore topographical patterns. When considering the story or the intended expression we will then look at meaning, gesture, and character.
