A call for participation to join the Ceramic and pottery Workshop taking place on Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays in March, 2014.
Workshop dates: 10, 12, 15, 17, 19, 22, 24, 26, 29, 31 March and 2, 5 April from 6 to 8 PM.
Ceramics Training Program
This workshop entails training on ceramic art and learning it professionally. It aims to make the trainee aware of all the essentials of the craft according to the following program of 15 days:
1 – Training generally on floral and geometric motifs and how to analyze them and also training on color, brush work and painting for four days.
2 - Training on modeling methods, shaping and also on ceramic surface treatments in the plasticity stage. Participants will be producing different designs using brush work on surfaces and decoration using engobes and oxides.
3 - Training on how to dry the products as well as how to fire the first firing (bisque firing) and the different stages of firing.
4 – Training on glaze making to get different colored glazes with white engobe, transparent glaze and underglaze painting.
5 - Training on different methods of firing such as oxidation and reduction firing and raku.
6 - Evaluation of the workshop and discussing the strengths and weaknesses in the trainee.

About the instructor:
Abd El Hakim Sayed Abd El Hakim works as the Director of Foustat Traditional Crafts Center, Cultural Development Fund, Ministry of Culture. He is also a Member of the Syndicate of Plastic Arts. Abd El Hakim participated in establishing the Foustat Ceramics Center in coordination with the Ministry of Culture. He also participated in many international exhibitions like Cairo International Ceramics Biennale an in the 2nd, 4th and 6th Youth Salon. He participated in establishing the Pottery Village, Old Cairo and in pottery developing program, Koum El Dab' in Qena. He is the deputy manager of the Egyptian Association of Pottery Innovation. Abd El Hakim participated in the International Festival of Traditional Crafts and their use in architecture, Arseca, Tunisia, in 2008. He was the Commissar of the traditional crafts exhibition in the Egyptian Cultural Center, Paris, 2008 and Exera Exhibition, Aiwa, Shanghai, in 2009. He also participated in the International Seminar for Environmental Tourism in 2010.
